First Annual Pack 807 Cup

2008 Pinewood Derby

Welcome Racers

Welcome Racers to
Pack 807’s Pinewood Derby Page
for the 2008 Race Season.

Introduction

Last year, with the introduction of a new aluminum track and a  state-of-the-art timing system, racing was a lot of fun and the Pinewood Derby was a huge success.

This year the committee decided to kick it up a notch… Instead of simply racing for the coveted title of pack champion, racers will also compete as part of a sponsored team in the first annual Pack 807 Cup.

There will be a total of 5 teams—one for each rank. Drivers will begin by competing in qualifying time trials against other team members. Each driver will race six times. The top six will then progress to rank finals where they will compete in another six timed raced to determine best of rank. Finally, each first place rank winner will progress to the pack finals to compete for the Pack 807 Cup and the coveted title of leader of the pack.

The silver plated cup mounted on a walnut base will be engraved with the winning team sponsors name and will displayed at their place of business for 12 months before being returned, as they return to defend their title in the 2009 Pinewood Derby and the Second Annual Pack 807 Cup.

Rules Overview

The rules are pretty simple… In a nutshell:

· Your car should be built using the kit provided. You can add to the wood, and you can add weight, but you must use the official cub scout wheels and axles.

· The dimensions of the vehicle cannot exceed 7-1/8” long by 2-3/4” wide by 4” high.

· The weight of the vehicle can not exceed 5 ounces.

· The wheels and axles cannot be modified except as specifically noted in the official rules.

· All cars used in the 2008 races must have been built specifically for the 2008 season.

· All cars must have 4 wheels with a minimum of three wheels touching the track.

· All cars must be registered and must pass inspection—check the pack calendar for weigh-in/registration dates.

· Finally, this is a kid event, which means that the kid’s should be involved in the construction of the car… Mom’s and Dad’s, of course you can help, but ultimately it should be their design!... Oh, and if you really feel compelled to build the fastest hot rod on the track, then why not buy an a kit for yourself and run it in the sibling races. Sibling kits are available through the committee for $4.00 each.
