Popcorn Sales

Booth Sales l Individual Sales l Products l Order Form

WHY SELL POPCORN?

The Campmasters popcorn sale is the primary means by which our pack raises money for various pack activities throughout the year.  The annual Blue & Gold banquet, Pinewood Derby, year-end picnic, and various Good Turn projects are all fully or partially funded through money raised from the popcorn sale.  Additionally, the sale provides the individual scouts the opportunity to put money aside for scout-related items such as camp fees, uniforms, camping gear, and admission fees to scout events that are not paid for by the pack.  It is a great means by which to let your scout experience the feeling of accomplishment for receiving pay for work well done.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

There are two types of selling methods:  take order and show and sell.

Take Order: The scout takes orders for popcorn by having customers fill out a line on the order form with the required information.  The customers typically do not pay at the time of order; instead the scout collects money for the product when it is delivered at a later date.

Show and Sell: A sales booth is set up and staffed by scouts at a scheduled location (in front of a grocery store, in a mall, at a soccer game, etc.). The product is on hand for the customers to take home.  Scouts who staff the booth divide the sales between them for credit to their individual sales totals.

WHAT’S MY GOAL?

Each returning scout has a sales goal of $120 in product, which produces $40 in profit for the pack. In unit terms this is equivalent to selling 12 of the $10 items. If you sell the more expensive items, then obviously you need to sell fewer of them to achieve your goal.  Fill one order form (make 25 individual sales) and you’ll reach your goal and then some.

I REACHED MY GOAL.  NOW WHAT?

Every dollar of profit you earn after you reach your sales goal goes into an account in your name held by the pack.  This is money that you can use to fund scouting activities such as camp, event tickets, or even purchase uniforms or equipment.

And…prizes!!! There are lots of cool prizes you can earn (the prize flyer shows them all) based on your total sales.  You can select the prize for the sales threshold you reach or combine prizes from lower levels to get to your total.

Also, for every order form you complete by October 27th, (that’s 25 separate, individual sales) you are eligible to win a $5,000 U.S. Savings Bond.  This is called the Kernel’s Challenge.  If you have your completed order form to the popcorn chair by October 27th, you will receive $10 Scout Bucks or a special popcorn Baltimore Area Council (BAC) council strip, and you’ll be entered into the drawing to win the savings bond.

PARENT’S ROLE?

Parents, while your scout should be the one doing most of the selling and delivery for the sale, your participation is critical to their success.  Your role includes:

  • Going with your scout while he does his take order sale in the neighborhood

  • Encouraging him to “keep at it” to make his goal

  • Getting your scout to any “Show and Sell” booths he signs up for on time, and staying with him if necessary.

  • Making sure the order form is properly completed and turned in on time

  • Help your scout deliver popcorn and track all customers’ delivery status

  • Help your scout count all money collected and check off boxes on the order form

  • If possible, help your scout with his sales effort by taking the order form to work

  • Making sure that the money is turned into the popcorn chair on time

  • Being you scout’s #1 supporter and fan.

Please note:  because this sale is the principal fundraiser for our pack activities, we require that any returning scout who chooses not to sell popcorn make a $40 contribution to the pack to make up for his profit share. This is the only way we can ensure that everyone does their “fair share” of contributing to the pack’s overall budget.

QUESTIONS?

If at any time you have any questions, please feel free to call anyone on the popcorn committee and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
